Promotion Types and Case Examples

The following are short descriptions and examples of some of the ways to sponsor video producers through PrivateWatchDog:
1) Contests: promotions incentives/rewards are offered in the context of a sponsorship deal.
Sponsors have many options for video promotion contests. On YouTube, contests ranged from the TurboTax™ Rap competition, a competition open to all video producers, to exclusive contests, which were managed exclusively by a few video producers. The following is an example of a lower budget trivia contest from GolfNow.tv:

2) Pre/post-rolls: short advertisement segments that run prior to or after the showing of video content.
Pre/post-rolls can be found on many video sharing websites including Metacafe, Joost, eBaumsWorld and more. However, YouTube does not automatically include them and most video producers choose to not accept prerolls. If you skip to the end of any of Revver-hosted video, you will see a post-roll advertisement.

3) Direct Advertising: Firms advertise directly on video sharing websites without sponsoring video producers, which can be done both individually or through a professional marketing firm such as PrivateWatchDog.
For example, BlendTec has successfully earned over 900,000 views for their videos. These videos are targeted directly to potential consumers through entertaining product demonstrations as demonstrated in the following video:

4) Specialty Content: content made with a particular purpose to meet a sponsor's need, funded by either advertisers or video sharing websites.
For example, YouTube sponsors Renetto, a popular YouTube producer, who claims that he and others were paid by YouTube to create seasonal/holiday content such as Renetto's Christmas special. Video producers who are discovered on video sharing websites are now increasingly sponsored by firms to creating special content.

5) Product Placements: promotions where products and/or services are featured and/or mentioned during the course of a video production either discretely or openly. Placements can come in the following forms including but not limited to videos, images and text.

On his blog, Nalts, a popular comedian on YouTube, states he secured product placement sponsorship deals with Mentos and GPS Maniac. The following is Nalts' video made for GPS Maniac:

Further, some video producers receive sponsorship beyond the scope of their video production. For example, in the following video CharlesTrippy from YouTube announces his goal to secure funding to attend a YouTube gathering by sporting the tattoo of a willing sponsor, which will be held in July 2007:

6) Other: there are many cases where advertisers sponsored video producers to do things beyond the scope of the five categories mentioned above.

For example, many videos have ambiguous messages and/or leave cliffhangers such as the following video by Bar Code - Flirting 101:
